Don Strickland, L.P.I.

Don Strickland is a California Licensed Private Investigator with more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and insurance claims investigations, management, and support. Don is also highly experienced in the courtroom and under examination having testified in court, depositions and administrative hearings no fewer than five hundred times over his thirty-two year career.

Don has spent his career building a foundation of experience and expertise in many areas of professional significance. He worked many years for the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office where he completed many assignments that included:

  • Supervision and completion of complex criminal, administrative, internal and medical-legal death investigations
  • Command and management of the Sacramento Police Academy and in-service training program
  • Training development and presentation

He currently serves as a Lieutenant in Welfare Fraud Investigations at the County of Sacramento, Department of Human Assistance, managing approximately 15 sworn and non-sworn investigators. His units are responsible for the investigation of complex financial schemes, internal employee criminal misconduct and suspect liability claims against the department. He also is responsible for training management and policy development for the entire division of more than 80 personnel.

In addition to Don’s work in the public investigative arena, he spent seven years working in the Special Investigations Unit of a major insurance carrier. He began as an investigator, eventually moving into a management role where he supervised and managed a team of investigators providing investigations and support in a sophisticated and high volume multi-line claims environment across the eight western states. His work included making claim, coverage, settlement, and recovery recommendations and decisions.

Don graduated from the California Basic Police Academy, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in 1983, and has since taken more than 60 Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T) courses to advance his skills, including P.O.S.T. Insurance Fraud Investigations by the California Department of Insurance.

Don is a respected leader in his field and has taught a multitude of classes over the course of his career, including training new investigators and providing statutorily mandated investigations training to claims handlers and insurance company personnel.

Don is committed to his profession and is an active member of the Law Enforcement Managers Association (LEMA), Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Law Enforcement Training Managers Association (LETMA), and a retired member of Sacramento Police Officers Association (SPOA).
